London, John Rutherford (b. 1786)

John Rutherford London (1786-1832) was the son of Peggy Marsden Chivers and John London, a colonial official, merchant, and banker. John was educated in Newark, NJ, before enrolling in the University in 1798. A member of the Dialectic Society, he left without earning a diploma. He became a planter, a lawyer, and president of the Bank of Cape Fear.
